Being the first year of upper Key Stage 2, children are expected to have a solid grounding in all areas of the curriculum, and rules and routines are well established. In this respect, the focus of their education is on consolidation of previous skills and building on these for greater depth and understanding. Work in all curricular areas, particularly Mathematics and English begins to accelerate, with an emphasis placed on reasoning.
This year children are expected to complete more weekly Mathematics and English homework tasks on top of their daily reading and Nessy. We hope, by now, the children will be enjoying the vast range of titles available in the school library.
This is the first year in which the children will have the opportunity to spend the night with their classmates on a school camp; a milestone in their development as young people. This prepares them for a few nights away from home in Year 6.
The school council members, this year, take on the responsibility of organising the Year 5 & 6 Halloween disco, as well as their usual duties.
Another highlight of this year, is the opportunity that the students are given to support their Year 6 peers, as the choir in the school show. This is a greatly anticipated event in our school calendar, which parents and children alike look forward to.
