House Points

School House Point System

At the British International School of Tenerife, as well as in most British schools in the UK, we have a group reward system for the entire school. When a child enrolls, they are assigned to a house. If they have siblings, they will all be placed in the same group. Our school has four houses, each represented by a colour: blue, green, red, and yellow.

At our school, we have connected each colour to an element of nature. For our Primary site, the colours correspond to the four main national parks in the Canary Islands. For our Secondary site, the colours represent the four elements:

These points are given out for showcasing any of our four school pillars: commitment, kindness, honesty, and respect, while encouraging teamwork. The house point system also promotes positive behavior, builds school spirit, develops leadership skills, enhances engagement, and supports inclusivity.

Every Thursday our House Point captains collect the points so they can be announced at our weekly Assembly that takes place every Friday.

This school group system serves multiple purposes. It helps organize children for special events, group them during trips, and create inter-house competitions for events like sports day. At the end of each term, the winning house receives a special treat.

Parents often compare our house point system to the one in Harry Potter because of the similarities in structure and purpose. At Hogwarts, students are sorted into four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin, each with its own unique traits and colours just like us!
