This term, Year 4 finished their study of the local area with a trip to La Orotava. First, the children visited Mohamed Osman´s exhibition in the old town and had the opportunity to ask the artist about his life´s work. They were also shown around one of the oldest churches in Tenerife – La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepcíon. Casa de los Balcones was their next stop and the children learnt how to make flower carpets in the ´Casa de las Alfombras´. The children then made their own flower carpet in groups and had great fun jumping all over it once it was finished. Local tradition dictates that once the festival is over the carpet makers can destroy their own flower carpets in this way! Finally, the children visited the town hall of La Orotava where they met the Mayor. They had the opportunity to ask him questions about his work and the history of La Orotava. The children learnt a lot AND the trip was great fun. We finished off with lunch and a play in Drago Park!
