Josh Gorroño Chapman – BBC Journalist and Social Media Content Creator
Born and brought up in Tenerife to an English mother and Spanish father, Josh started at the Los Realejos site when he was just 4 years old. He remained there through to his IGSCEs and A-Levels, serving as Head Boy in his final year.
After finishing school in 2016, with the highest Cambridge Art A-Level mark in Spain, Josh went on to study at the University of York, where he graduated with a First Class Honours in Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance. While he was at University, Josh was heavily involved in student media, as well as theatre and short films. He presented online videos, radio shows and TV programmes, hosted live events and conferences, as well as acting in award-winning short films and plays. While at university he formed a theatre company which toured the UK and worked as an actor commercially, before joining BBC Look North in Hull as a freelance researcher in 2021.
At the BBC Josh would, initially, set up guests and research stories, but due to his experience making online content at university and on YouTube, he began to specialise in social media. He now helps run three BBC news brands across Facebook, Instagram and X, making and presenting audio, video and written content that is broadcast across TV, radio, the BBC News website, the BBC’s on-demand offerings and social media, reaching millions. He also worked at Eurovision in 2023, using his language skills to host the Spanish delegation on behalf of the BBC in Liverpool.
A memorable experience or significant achievement from your time at the school
“One thing I have really taken forward into my professional life after my time at BST, is the confidence that if I really want to make something happen, I can make it happen. Whether it was pushing the boundaries with my art, writing and producing my own play or resurrecting the leavers ball and forming a committee to run it, the school gave me the tools to make my ideas and ambitions a reality.”
Manón Yanes – Photographer and Video Artist
I studied at Trinity School, a place that shaped my life. I wasvery happy there, met my best friends (who are like sisters to me now), and had the chance to explore my creativity, which helped me turn my passion into my profession: photography.
I have always been passionate about cinema, and that’s reflected in my work. My photos are designed as small frames that tell stories. I love analog photography because it’s more than just a job; it’s a way to express emotions and capture moments from my life and surroundings, as if everything were part of a movie.
These days, I mainly focus on fashion video projects, but I’m also starting to explore the documentary genre. I love experimenting with new styles and learning from every project I take on.
Pablo Herrero – Audit Banking Manager at KPMG
After completing my studies at the British School of Tenerife, I went to the United States to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Master’s in Business Administration, thanks to a tennis scholarship. For the past five years, I have been living in Luxembourg, where I work as an audit manager in the banking sector at KPMG Luxembourg. A memorable experience from my time as a student at the British School of Tenerife was the football games played against other British schools in Tenerife.
Robyn Graber – Techincal lead at CDP Environmental Data Disclosure
I studied at The British School of Tenerife before continuing my A levels in the UK. I studied BMus Music and MSc Environment, Politics and Development at Kings College London, before becoming a technical lead at CDP. CDP is the gold standard in environmental data disclosure for companies and sub national governments globally. I work in developing scoring methodologies and analysing data from cities, states and regions to provide insights into how subnational governments are tracking their climate progress and how different regions compare in their endeavours.
Paula Palomino – Head of Fabrics and Innovation at Massimo Dutti
I am proud to say that my journey began at British school of Tenerife, where I first discovered my passion for creativity and design. After graduating, I pursued a BA in Fashion at IED Barcelona, followed by a degree in Arts and Cultural Management from Central Saint Martins University in London. To round out my knowledge, I also studied Fashion, Design, and Experience Management at Bocconi University in Milan. These experiences gave me a global perspective on the fashion industry and helped me combine artistry with innovation and business strategy.
My career started at ZARA, where I worked as a womenswear fashion designer and learned the fast-paced dynamics of the global fashion market. I then ventured into freelancing, collaborating with various fashion brands and suppliers across the world, which taught me the importance of adaptability and cultural diversity. I also took a leap of faith and launched my own brand, Cayena, creating sustainable resortwear using biodegradable materials. Cayena was my way of showing that fashion can be beautiful and eco-conscious at the same time.
Now, I lead as the Head of Fabrics and Innovation at Massimo Dutti, where I’m focused on integrating sustainability into every part of the production process. I also work with fashion startups and technology innovators to promote sustainable practices throughout the industry. To the students of the BST, I would like to say: Dream big, take risks and stay true to your values.
The world is full of opportunities to create something meaningful—don’t be afraid to carve your own path.
Amrit Malkani – Music Artist Manager and Co founder of the Record Label Distortion
Having spent five enriching years in the UK, I completed a four-year undergraduate degree (including a sandwich year as a Student Placement Officer in Loughborough University’s HR department) and a one-year master’s in Sports Management. Despite my academic background, my professional journey led me to a very different path—one fueled by my passion for music.
What began as a hobby—DJing at house parties and events across the UK—evolved into a fulfilling career in the music industry. Today, I run AM Management, an artist management agency I founded in 2019 with the mission to empower electronic music artists by helping them achieve their creative and professional goals. My work spans artist management, DJ bookings, music marketing services, and music publishing, connecting talent from around the world with audiences who resonate with their sound.
In addition, I co-founded the record label Distortion in 2018 with a partner. Since its launch, the label has built a robust catalogue of over 300 tracks, further cementing its presence in the global electronic music scene. Beyond the music industry, I manage my family’s business, which includes a souvenir shop and a t-shirt wholesale enterprise.
I am incredibly grateful to BST for providing me with the opportunity to study in a British curriculum surrounded by multicultural classmates while living in Spain; this unique experience has helped me adapt seamlessly and connect with people from all backgrounds, both at university in the UK and in my professional life.
My journey exemplifies how what you study doesn’t always determine your career trajectory. Passion and motivation play a far greater role in shaping success. My advice? Pursue what drives you and gives you purpose—it’s the surest way to thrive.
Gabriela González Farrington – Law Student
I had the privilege of studying at the British School of Tenerife from Year 8 to Year 13, where I embraced core values that have shaped my personal and professional life. I am now completing my law degree and working as an English teacher.
One of the most memorable aspects of my time at the school was the encouragement and support I constantly received, which inspired me to pursue my passions in both law and education.
Micaela Ortega – Fashion and Music Bussiness Manager
I studied at Trinity School, where I spent my early school years before transferring to the German School in Year 5. Despite this change, many of my best academic and personal memories come from Trinity, where I learned to think creatively and, above all, freely. The friendships I built during this time still remain, and this experience was key in motivating me to study in London. There, I not only solidified my command of English but also developed a deep curiosity for Anglo-Saxon culture.
Thanks to my education, I was able to study at the London College of Communication, specializing in Fashion Marketing and Music Business Management. This degree became a platform that has opened all the professional doors I have pursued.
I lived in London for 16 years, working in public relations agencies, record labels, and adver-tising agencies for global clients such as Adidas, Nike, Smirnoff, and even the United Nations with their Global Goals. Two years ago, I returned to Spain and settled in Madrid, where I am currently the strategy director at an international agency. In my role, I lead social media strategies for brands like Spotify, Google, and the Public Investment Fund.”
Camila García Lovell – Video Editor, Motion Graphics Designer, Songwriter and Producer
I studied Communication Studies and made a career as a video editor and motion graphics designer. I’ve worked for the TV, Fashion and Mobile Videogame industry. One of the videos I did for the game “Yahtzee” was played on a 5 meter screen in Time Square (New York, USA) for a whole week!
I also write and produce my own music as a side project called “Cielago”. My first experience playing an instrument was during my school years in Mrs Simmonds music class. She taught me how to play the recorder and encouraged me to take music lessons outside school too.
Alana Luis Budding – Media and Creative Editor
I’m Alana, ex head girl from BST which gave me opportunitieI was once Head Girl at the British School of Tenerife and now study at Lancaster University in English Literature with Creative Writing. Currently, I am doing my placement year in Marketing in London. My experience at BIST has provided me with ample opportunities post-graduation to develop skills to further my career. My year in Marketing means I get to learn about the travel industry while being provided chances to make connections at trade shows and meet customers on trips like our Lapland Day Experience. Just as I volunteered during my time as Head Girl during my time, I take the time to take my volunteer days within my company and have joined their internal Greenmakers team, whose mission is to give back and be more sustainable. I am also currently the Media and Creative Editor for the Careers Advancement Network newsletter and have been chosen to be next year’s Chief Editor. All of this was made possible by studying my A Levels at the BST, and I look forward to graduating and seeing what other amazing openings come my way.
Rodolfo Ostilla Monico-Aerospace Engineer and University Teacher
I did my entire education up to University at Trinity School being there for over ten years. After graduating, I went on to study aerospace engineering at the University of Seville. I continued with a MSc in the UK, and a PhD in Physics in the Netherlands. Life then took me to the US for seven years, first as an assistant researcher in Harvard University, then as faculty at the University of Houston. After a lot of traveling around, in 2022 I moved back to Cádiz in Spain where I now teach at the engineering school, in the hope of being closer to my family and aspiring to a more relaxed life. My time at Trinity helped me on a professional level, as its education in English gave me a headstart when moving abroad. I also have many cherished memories from my time there, I remember many playground conversations we had when trying to understand the world from the eyes of a seven or eight year old which I find funny remembering. And I made some friends for my entire life, even as I have lived in many places.
