The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global objectives established by the United Nations to address social, economic, and environmental challenges. These goals aim to eradicate poverty, promote good health and well-being, ensure quality education, achieve gender equality, foster economic growth, combat climate change, and build peaceful, inclusive societies by 2030.

As a school, we are proud to be actively contributing to a sustainable and equitable future for all. Recently, we installed solar panels across our entire sports hall, which will soon provide us with electricity, making us the first school in Tenerife to achieve 100% energy efficiency. This initiative not only covers all our energy needs but also allows us to support our community by offering our neighbors access to affordable electricity.

Every term, we are committed to making a positive impact both globally and locally. Our efforts include actively combating poverty worldwide and raising funds to support those affected by recent events such as natural disasters. During our annual harvest festival, we collect food to ensure it reaches those in need within our community. Through these initiatives, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need and foster a spirit of compassion and community within our school.

We are privileged to have one of our dedicated teachers involved in a nonprofit organization called Correscamino Solidarios, which aims to support children in Gambia. She has been pivotal in organizing fundraising efforts at our school and personally travelling to Gambia to ensure that children in schools receive the necessary resources and books to enhance the quality of their education.

We have also raised funds to purchase bicycles for children in Gambia, enabling them to attend school. By providing these bicycles, we are helping to ensure that more children in Gambia have the opportunity to receive an education.

Our school is committed to promoting gender equality by creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students, encouraging equal participation in all activities.

We also celebrate International Women’s Day and incorporate lessons on equality into our PSHEE curriculum. This ensures that all students understand the importance of gender equality and feel empowered to participate fully in school life.

Our Eco Warriors actively collaborate with the community through various initiatives. They organize planting workshops, conduct beach clean-up activities, and promote proper waste sorting around the school to encourage recycling. These efforts help improve our environment both on land and in water, fostering a healthier and more sustainable community.

We hope our actions at the British International School of Tenerife will contribute to a better and more sustainable world, aligning with the 2030 goals. We will continue to work hard to do our part in taking care of the environment.
